Reshuffling the Deck Doesn’t Fix a Bad Hand

Prague International Toy Fair has been postponed to 2027. Again. I’ve lost count of how many times this show has been rescheduled. At some point a postponement isn’t news, it’s just confirmation of what everyone already suspected.

Toy Sourcing International in Amsterdam had a similar arc, minus even the honesty of an announcement. Plenty of noise before launch, exhibitor lists, buyer numbers, the usual promises about filling the gap left by Distoy. Then nothing. No coverage, no attendance figures, no fizz. It simply went quiet, and nobody’s said why.

There’s a wider lesson doing the rounds this week in an unrelated sport: bending the rules in your favour doesn’t guarantee you win. Reshuffling the calendar doesn’t fix attendance if nobody wants to turn up in the first place.

Monday’s post on LA bookings generated fewer reactions than I expected. A handful of DMs, not much public debate. I thought the slower appointment pace would strike more of a nerve given how many of us are feeling it. Maybe it’s just accepted now as the new normal, which is its own kind of answer.

I’m taking a short break in Hua Hin this week. Back in the office Saturday morning, off again Saturday afternoon to watch some proper sport: France against Australia in the Nations Cup. Worth remembering France ran the All Blacks desperately close last week, 34-32, with most of their first-choice players missing through injury. That’s a squad worth watching build.

Sarra’s already claimed her spot on the beach here.
